Christmas Day Devotion

Christmas Day Devotion Merry Christmas church. My name is Stuart Davidson and I am the pastor here at Eastern Shore Baptist Church. What a delight it is to see all of you here this morning. How many of you have already begun some of your family Christmas traditions? Maybe you have a specific food that you only cook this time of year? Perhaps there is a certain order of opening presents. You know that there really is no wrong way to celebrate Christmas. I did some thinking the other day as I was preparing for this message. I wonder how other Christians around the world celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. This is what I discovered.  Naturally here in America, we decorate trees, put lights on our homes, and enjoy numerous Christmas parties and get togethers.  Well in Italy they have no Christmas trees, instead they decorate small wooden pyramids with fruit. In Caracas, the capital city of Venezuela, it is customary for the streets to be blocked off on Christmas Eve so that the pe

Encouragement For Your New Year: A Devotion

Encouragement For Your New Year: A Devotion Good morning brothers and sisters. My name is Stuart Davidson and I am the pastor here at Eastern Shore Baptist Church. I hope that all of you had a fantastic Christmas and it is my prayer that all of you have a happy and healthy New Year. I cannot think of a better way to start this new year, 2023, than to be right here, right now in God’s presence, among His people. So thank you for being here this morning. Thank you for coming to worship God this morning.  Many of you have been thinking and praying about your New Year’s Resolutions. Maybe you will try to lose that pesky 20 pounds. Maybe you will try to bring up that test score. You will reach for that promotion in 2023. Maybe you will try to get out of debt. Some of you will have more spiritual goals in mind. You will keep a spiritual journal this year. You will read through the Bible. You will have a dedicated devotion and prayer time with your family. That is one think that I love

The Curious Case of The Christmas Cross

The Curious Case of The Christmas Cross Opening Illustration: Good morning Eastern Shore Baptist Church and Merry Christmas. We are now just days away from celebrating with Christians around the world the momentous occasion of Jesus Christ’s birth. Momentous may not even be the right word to use when you stop to think that the Creator of the Universe became a human being, born in a stable, some two thousand years ago. Miraculous. Marvelous maybe. There has to be a better word am I right? Amazing? Astonishing? Astounding? It seems that no matter what word you choose to define that event, the event that splits human time in half, just doesn’t seem to be enough does it? Point: Well, Merry Christmas anyway! Jesus is born and the world has never been the same. Isn’t funny that people around the world, people who do not even claim Christianity as their faith, still celebrate Christmas. Did you know that nearly 96% of all Americans celebrate Christmas?  76% of Buddhists celebrate

Family Ties: Sanctified Fathers

Family Ties: Sanctified Fathers Opening: Good morning church family. Welcome to the last week of a 6 week series entitled “Family Ties”. Over the past several weeks we have discovered that God created marriage. Correct…God instituted marriage and He defines marriage as between one man and one woman for life. Marriage is to be one of the greatest joys of our human existence. Marriage fulfills our human needs for partnership. Marriage is a beautiful picture of Christ, the groom, redeeming and returning for His bride, the church. As a husband is willing to lay his life down for his bride, so too does Jesus willingly sacrifice Himself on the cross to purchase and atone for the sins of the church, His glorious bride. Marriage provides partnership for men and women. Many of you remember the day that you were married. The reason that you stood in front of that preacher, those friends, that church is because God believes that you can make a greater Kingdom difference together than separat
