Communion Mediation

Communion Mediation  February 17th, 2019 John’s Gospel captures Jesus’ words to His disciples concerning what would eventually be called Holy Communion. Listen to Jesus from John 6:53-58. John 6:53-58 ESV So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me, he also will live because of me… Point: When we partake in Communion, we remember Jesus’ death on the cross. There is no communion with Jesus unless we all recognize that He died for our sins and paid the penalty of our transgressions on the cross.  Yet, when we celebrate Communion, we know that it was throu

According to Luke: Crazy Faith

According to Luke: Crazy Faith Opening Illustration: The great theologian of the last century, Karl Barth, wrote a 10 volume theological work titled "Ethics." When traveling and lecturing throughout the United States at all the important universities and theological schools, it is reported that one young man asked him, "Dr. Barth, you have written multiple volumes on theology. But, if you had to boil down all your theological knowledge into just a sentence or two, what would you say is the essence of your theological understanding?" Dr. Barth didn’t hesitate. Sanctity of Life Sunday Opening Illustration: Introduction: The Bible clearly states that God’s chosen people, are prohibited from committing the act of murder.  Let’s read Exodus 20:13.   Exodus 20:13 ESV “You shall not murder.” Point: So, the English Standard Version of Exodus 20:13 states emphatically “you shall not murder”. I was curious to see what other translations would say.  So here is the listing: NIV “You shall not murder.” NASB “You shall not murder.” The Message  “No murder” Holman Christian Standard Bible “Do not murder” Point: Let me say here and now that abortion is murder. It is. I don’t care what New York puts into law or what laws West Virgina is putting into place, abortion is murder. I’m sorry if that offends, but it is what I believe God’s word to say.  Illustration: The first to be killed in Nazi Germany were the infirm, the senile and mentally handicapped, the aged and defective children.
