Today we will be examining the text found in I Samuel 17:1-51. Now we will read most of the text but we will skip just a few verses for the sake of time. Today’s story is a familiar one. We are looking at the story of David versus Goliath. It is perhaps the greatest underdog story of all time. At least that is what we have been taught our entire lives. What would you think if I told you that it was indeed the greatest underdog story ever told but everyone got the underdog in the story wrong. We were raised to believe that David was the small, weak, underdog. It was the evening of the Oscars, celebrating the best and most artistic movies of the year. Who knew that one of the most viral moments ever was going to take place. The Oscars is usually known to be boring, bland, and a bit blasé. Then comedian Chris Rock took the stage. Rock was about to give out an award but before he did, Rock told an off color joke about Jada Pickett Smith, the wife of Will Smith. Rock made a comment about Jada Pickett Smith’s haircut. As the camera cut away from the table where Will Smith and his family were sitting, Rock is seen smiling and laughing awkwardly.
